test prep apps

As a proud father of four, I am constantly wary about baring my offspring to large amounts of anything. Decades of existence have taught me that large amounts of anything, depending on what it is, is probably unhealthy. I was against the idea of my offspring having cell phones, and I should have been. I observe children (many that could even be in grade school) gawking at their phones for what seems like an eternity, unconscious to the real world. Children must be getting outside, observing the world, interacting with people (physically), and just experiencing life. The amount of technology our offspring are being relentlessly assaulted with every day is very frightening.

With my own offspring, I restrict them to one hours per day on the television, one hours per day on the PC(with school work as an exception) and one hours per day for video games. I think these limits are very fair. My sons, unfortunately, disagree. When they began at Glenbard East, they were seeing their peers with phones. Obviously, they started pressuring me to buy them cells of their own. I was initially against the notion. Current phones are like small PCs, and I figured they would waste all day messing around with their phones.

My attitude began to adjust when my sons explained to me about many of the positive aspects of cell phones and PCs. They revealed how PCs can be used for group studying with skype, wikipedia, books online, and many other things. When the time came for my sons to begin their SAT test prep, they explained that there are a lot of iPad test prep apps. Who could have thunk an iPad could be a tool for test prep? I told them that I might buy them phones, and if they scored above a twenty-five on their SATs, they could hang on to them and I could cover the bill through higher education. They said OK, and downloaded an app called Watermelon express. I would very much vouch for it to all the parents out there. I'm ecstatic to announce that my boys actually ranked well higher their goal, and I have an unbelievably high cell phone payment!

An excerpt from AbdulWahid Hamid's
Islam The Natural Way

Every year, for one complete lunar month-the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, you as an adult Muslim are required to fast. From dawn to sunset in the month of Ramadan, you are required to refrain from all food and drink and sexual relations with your spouse.

If you are sick or on a journey you are allowed not to fast but you must make up for it by fasting the same number of days missed during Ramadan.

4 Things you might not know

FIRST Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to
drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!'

THIRD Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends

What is Change?

Change Is.....

Change is something that presses us out of our comfort zone. It is destiny-filtered, heart grown, faith built. Change is inequitable; not a respecter of persons. Change is for the better or for the worst, depending on where you view it. Change has an adjustment period which varies on the individual. It is uncomfortable, for changing from one state to the next upsets our control over outcomes. Change has a ripping effect on those who won’t let go. Flex is the key. Even a roller coaster ride can be fun if you know when to lean and create new balance within the change.  Change is needed when all the props and practices of the past no longer work. Change is not comforted by the statement ‘just hang in there’ but with the statement ‘you can make it’. We don’t grow in retreat, but through endurance. Change isn’t fixed by crying, worrying, or mental treadmilling. Change is won by victors not victims; and that choice is ours.

Pre-20th Century Gambia

As early as AD 500, towns and villages based on agriculture and the knowledge of iron were dotted across the West African region. As the first millennium progressed, trade increased significantly between the regions north and south of the Sahara.

In the 14th century, the Empire of Mali - founded by Sundiata Keita, leader of the Malinké people - encompassed the area from the Atlantic coast of today's Gambia and Senegal, all the way to Niger and Nigeria. This vast empire controlled nearly all the trans-Saharan trade, and contact with rulers of the Arab states to the north led Mali rulers to embrace Islam with enthusiasm. By the mid-15th century, the Mali empire was waning in influence, and a group of Malinké people migrated into the valley of the Gambia River. They brought Islam with them and became known as the Mandinka.

Think of you going through all the pains of raising your family amidst all kind of imaginable hardship, with out a grain of help from whosoever. and at old age, time for you to reap the benefit of your children, someone totally alien to your family got in the way. Instead of your children doing exactly what they are supposed to do, they turned their focus on some strange person that had nothing to do with their upkeep. What would be your response if you were the parent of such siblings?

What's so mystical about Re-Ligion when the name speaks for itself?

Like any other trials and errors made by the human race with intentions to keep a legacy alive, as a precept or tribulation to our existence reality; the knowledge of self in our primordial state and its off-shoot guiding principle, is the square root of primitive artifacts (e.g., the sphinx, the pyramids, the hieroglyphs, and before that, the sun, the moon, and the stars); and of course ideological theory or reasoning; herein theology.
